As adults age, they are at risk for experiencing cognitive decline particularly in relation to a neurodegenerative condition, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Cognitive impairment and decline can have deleterious effects on an individual’s ability to independently manage their finances. As cognitive impairment occurs on a spectrum, so too does one’s ability to effectively engage in financial decision-making. This presentation will discuss the current rates of dementia and notable impairments in financial decision-making across the spectrum of a neurogenerative disease. Additional information regarding the warning signs for cognitive decline and potential recommendations for improved management of finances will also be discussed.
