The presentation will cover the national economic outlook and the implications of the new administrations’ policy goals and then take a brief look at California. Kimberly will discuss the local economy in more detail with a focus on the labor markets and an emphasis on the quality of jobs being created and what that means for economic growth in Southern California. She will finish up with a look at the local housing market and a summary.

Kimberly Ritter-Martinez, Economist
Institute for Applied Economics

Kimberly Ritter-Martinez is an Economist in the Institute for Applied Economics (IAE) at the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporations (LAEDC). Ms. Ritter-Martinez studies the regional economy of the greater Los Angeles region, researching, analyzing and forecasting macroeconomic trends such as employment, inflation, interest rates and housing. Ms. Ritter also studies and develops reports on the industries that are key to the Los Angeles regional economy including trade, manufacturing, aerospace, tourism and entertainment.

Ms. Ritter-Martinez is a principal contributor to the annual Otis Report on the Creative Economy and regularly contributes to economic reports and briefings presented to corporate and government groups.  She also gives presentations to corporations, government agencies, non-profits and educational institutions, and frequently speaks to the media about issues pertaining the local economy.

Kimberly Ritter-Martinez joined the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) in January 2009 as an Economist for the Kyser Center for Economic Research, and in 2016 moved to the Institute for Applied Economics.

Prior to joining the LAEDC, Ms. Ritter-Martinez worked in the automotive industry as an office manager for a manufacturer’s representative, and before that as operations manager for forest products trading firm, directly managing the company’s international sales and purchasing activities.

Kimberly earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from California State University Long Beach and is active in a number of professional and community organizations including the National Association for Business Economics and the American Economic Association, and has volunteered as a grant review panelist for the Ovation Foundation’s Innovation Grants Awards Program. Kimberly is also concurrently serving as President of both the League of Women Voters, Los Angeles County and her local League chapter (Long Beach Area) working in both capacities to further the League’s mission of promoting voter education and protecting voters’ rights.
